Assistant Coach for 2012

Saturday, January 7th, 2012 | Member News, Social News, Uncategorized | No Comments

The Executive Committee along with Club Coach Darren Edmunds have appointed Jimmy Onturk as assistant coach for season 2012.

Jimmy has been a long serving member for the Geelong Masters and has a broad resume from his playing days in senior football. He was a 100+ game player with Corio and also has experience with several other clubs & leagues around Victoria over his long career. Up until 2 years ago he was still playing reserves football at North Geelong so he could play football with his son. To his credit Jimmy is one of the fittest players at the club and leads by example.

Please join with us in congratulating Jimmy on his appointment for 2012 and support him & Eddo for a successful 2012 season.

The club held its AGM for 2011 last Tuesday 29th November at the Thomson Football Club, which was then followed by a general committee meeting and some important information came from those meetings as follows:

The Executive Committee was re appointed for season 2012

President: Brian Mewha

Vice President: Wayne Allan

Treasurer: Russell Thackeray

Brian also announced that 2012 would be his last year as President as he would not stand again. Brian was Secretary for 10 years and after 2012 will have been President for 10 years, 20 years of service is a fantastic effort in anyones book, well done Brian.

The General Committee was also voted in with some new blood added. Chris Shine, Graeme Boyd, Bob Saxon & Peter Cameron join returning committee members Peter Marie, Dean Hope, Paul Zorkau, Charlie Ardornetto, Trevor Cunningham and Gordon Mathieson, welcome aboard to the new guys.

The Executive Committee has also appointed Wayne Allan & Peter McCallum as O47 “Match Day” coaches, congrats to both on their appointment

In a big change for the club, Geelong AFL Masters will consist of 1 x O35 side & 1 x O47 side for season 2012

RECRUITMENT FOR 2012 SEASON

Although the club has made the tough decision to go back to one O35 team in 2012 it does not mean we will have an abundance of players next season. We saw this season when we had to fill two 35 sides at home and we were only managing 28-30 players for two teams. We need a real drive of 35-40 year old players to get to the club as we have an abundance of O47’s. If anyone knows a big ruckmen get him/them down to the club or give their details to Eddo to follow up and hopefully with Eddo’s extra training sessions we will all have a bit more run and fitness in 2012.

Cheers

Baarsy.
